3D AREOLA TATTOO FAQ

WHEN CAN I GET IT DONE? Healing time is very important. In most cases, you should wait at least 12 months after mastectomy or reconstruction (until scars are mature), nipple reconstruction, or chemotherapy and radiation (your immune system and skin need time to recover). Always check with your surgeon or oncologist before scheduling. A consultation is required before booking your tattoo appointment. During this visit, we assess the area, review your medical history, and discuss your goals. In some cases, inkless scar revision (also known as collagen induction therapy) may be recommended first, as thicker scars can prevent the skin from properly holding pigment.

DOES IT HURT? Most patients feel little to no pain. Surgical incisions often reduce sensation in the breast area, so discomfort is minimal. In the rare event of increased pain, a numbing gel can be applied to keep you comfortable.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED? Most people need two to three sessions. The initial appointment (1.5–3 hours) is used to design and tattoo, followed by one or more visits 8–10 weeks apart to perfect color, shape, and detail.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS TO MY IMPLANTS? No. Areola tattoos are placed only in the top layers of the skin. Implants sit well beneath these layers, so the tattooing process does not come into contact with or interfere with them in any way

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY TATTOO? Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your session. Avoid aspirin and blood-thinning medications for 3 days prior, after consulting with your physician for medication clearance. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. You cannot be tattooed if pregnant, breastfeeding, taking antibiotics, or currently in active cancer treatment. All pre-procedure protocols will be discussed in detail during your consultation.

HOW IS THE HEALING PROCESS? Expect mild redness or tenderness for a few days. Healing takes 7–14 days, and full color settles in 4–6 weeks. You should avoid swimming, saunas, tanning, or heavy exercise until fully healed. There is no downtime — you can return to work and normal daily activities right away.

WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER IT? In many cases, we can bill your insurance directly once we verify that your plan covers areola tattooing. If your plan does not cover the service, we will provide detailed documentation to help you submit a claim on your own. For those without coverage (or who prefer not to pay out of pocket), we also offer flexible financing options to make treatment more accessible. Thanks to the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998, most health insurance plans are required to cover breast reconstruction after mastectomy — and this includes nipple–areola tattooing as the final step of reconstruction.

FINAL NOTE: Areola tattooing is often the final step of healing, helping many survivors feel whole again. As a trained medical tattoo artist and a breast cancer survivor myself, I’m here to guide you with compassion, safety, and artistry. I use a trauma-informed approach in every step of the process, ensuring you feel comfortable, respected, and empowered — giving you choice, control, and dignity throughout your care.

COSMETIC TATTOO FAQ

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading creates the illusion of perfectly full brows by drawing individual hairlike strokes using a sterile disposable hand-held tool with a very fine blade. Your service includes consultation with a Certified artist (by phone or in person), your brow shaping and mapping, your before-care and after-care guidance for optimal results. We only use top-quality pigments (hypoallergenic, contains no heavy metals, cruelty-free).

WHAT IS OMBRE/POWDER BROWS?

This technique is ideal for all skin types, especially OILY skin, or individuals with previous PMU work requiring correction. Meant to create a fuller, diffused powder look mimicking that "filled-in with makeup" look. The ombre effect adopts a softer, lighter look on the front section of the brow and gradually darkens toward the tail of the brow.  Lasts up to 3 years.

WHAT IS BROW LAMINATION?

Brow Lamination is the hottest new trend taking the industry by storm. This system can be applied to the most stubborn brow hairs and will realign the direction of your hair growth and improve the overall shape of the brows for up to 8 weeks at a time. No more brow gel, pomade, soap brows, etc. Whether you desire a full and fluffy look, or a sleek soft brow, we can help you achieve it in a matter of 30-45 minutes. Ideal for clients with unruly, coarse brows, clients not ready to commit to PMU (i.e. microblading), and even for male clients.

IS IT PAINFUL?

Every client has a different level of pain tolerance. However, the majority of our clients undergoes their procedure with no major discomfort. If anything, most will fall asleep during their procedure. A numbing agent is applied to the area being treated to render optimal comfort.
